Kalap, Uttarakhand

Life is about little discoveries, and Kalap, a tiny hamlet nestled in the upper Garhwal Himalayas, is one of those gems.

Perched at 7,500 feet, Kalap is renowned as a trekking destination. Its untouched beauty offers a serene environment amidst nature, providing subtle views of the Himalayas and a chance to immerse oneself in local culture and traditions. Kalap invites you on a journey of self-exploration and unforgettable experiences.

Anand Sankar established Kalap as a responsible rural tourism destination in 2013, driven by his goal of creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for the local inhabitants. In Kalap, agriculture focuses on crops like wheat, millets, potatoes, and beans, while sheep and goat rearing are significant occupations. Through this initiative, Anand aims to introduce new skills that empower villagers to achieve self-sufficiency and improve their quality of life.

Today, Kalap boasts its own school and a well-equipped hospital. The village school provides education up to the 8th standard, after which many students continue their studies at schools in Netwar and Mori, located across the River Supin.

Anand’s journey exemplifies how passion and dedication can transform a vision into reality, enriching the lives of the community one step at a time.

Your itinerary features home-cooked meals. Savor traditional dishes like Goshua, a type of pancake made from wheat flour filled with a paste of poppy seeds and jaggery. These can be boiled in water or deep-fried, offering a delightful local taste. Additionally, don’t miss out on tasting the various varieties of Pahadi Rajma, a popular dish in the region known for its unique flavors.

The trekking trails here showcase pristine natural beauty, offering breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks and lush bugyals (high-altitude grasslands) of Kedarkantha. Whether you seek respite from city life or wish to immerse yourself in nature, Kalap is the perfect destination for unwinding and rejuvenation!

    1. Yes, It indeed is a beautiful village with amazing panoramic views. And the fact that the entire village together believes in the development that Anand Sarkar headed is truly appreciative. Kalap now has a well equipped hospital and a small school, so that villagers don’t need to travel to far off places for basics.
